Mac-Vik History: Mac-Vik Plumbing, Heating, and Electrical has been serving the community for over 60 years. We’ve proudly provided top-notch plumbing, heating, air conditioning, and electrical services to Golden, Denver, Lakewood, Arvada, Westminster, and surrounding areas since 1962.
The Friendship That Built a Business
Our story goes even further back in time when a plumbing apprentice named Lennard Vik was paired with a journeyman plumber, Tom McDougal, at a plumbing company in Denver, Colorado. The two became fast friends, and after working together for four years, they decided to open their own company. In 1962, Tom and Lennard went into business together, forming Mac-Vik Plumbing. Their first shop was a single bay they rented from an auto shop and was located on the then “outskirts” of Golden, CO, on South Golden Road.
Soon after their start, Tom and Lennard were able to buy their own place, which they refurbished and made into a dedicated shop. Mac-Vik was in this location for a few years, and in the early seventies, the company built a new building known affectionately as the “blue shop.” This would be Mac-Vik’s home for the next decade until they built another new shop right next door to the blue shop, which became known as the “yellow shop.”

A Legacy of Leadership: Passing the Torch
In 1974, Tom McDougal passed away, and Lennard bought Tom’s share of the company from Tom’s wife. In 1984, Lennard’s son Andy joined the company, working alongside Lennard. Lennard retired in 1995, and Andy proudly took over running the company. In 2000, Andy bought Mac-Vik from his dad and owned and operated the company until 2017 when he sold it to Tom Cox, who is the current owner/operator.
Mac-Vik Today: Our Modern Home & Future Vision
Under the leadership of Tom, Mac-Vik expanded its service area to the Denver Metro and into northern Colorado to include Fort Collins, Loveland, Longmont, Boulder, Firestone, and all the towns in between. In October of 2022 Mac-Vik purchased and absorbed Gard Electric which allowed Mac-Vik to offer electrical services in addition to plumbing, heating, and air conditioning. With the edition of electrical Mac-Vik can offer complete installations without the need to subcontract the electrical work allowing quicker installations and flexible scheduling.
Currently, Mac-Vik employs approximately sixteen dedicated team members, offering Golden and surrounding areas a wide variety of experience in plumbing, heating, cooling, and electrical services. In July of 2024, Mac-Vik moved from South Golden Road to its new, larger building on West 43rd Drive. This expanded space provides exciting opportunities for continued growth and even better service for our community.
Mac-Vik’s Commitment To Exceptional Service and Building Community
Mac-Vik has been dedicated to building customer relationships by prioritizing its commitment to ethical business practices. It was a 2023 and 2024 Better Business Bureau Torch Awards Finalist and a 2025 Rotary Club of Golden Ethics in Business. In 2023 and 2024 Mac-Vik was voted Golden’s “Best of the Best” in plumbing and it has been a NextDoor “Neighborhood Fave” for the last several years.
In addition to its commitment to ethics, Mac-Vik has launched Corporate Philanthropy efforts by donating to local 4-H, being involved in Toys for Tots, and sponsoring the Golden High School athletics department. It also offers discounts to veterans, active military, first responders, and seniors.
